Dr. Judith L. Thompson: "I value honesty and
simplicity. My role for you is first to define what your individual
circumstances are, then to elucidate treatment options and last to
execute the plan that we have agreed upon. State of the art and
standard of care guidelines are used as a framework from which a
personalized care plan based upon your circumstances and values is
generated. I value open communication, flexibility, and above all else
wish to deliver a care plan with which you and your family are
comfortable

Dr. Thompson is a graduate of St. Philips College (AS
Radiologic Technology), Texas A&M University (BS Biochemistry),
University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (Doctor of
Medicine). She completed 6 years of surgical training and research at
East Tennessee State University. In 1987 she was the recipient of the
Outstanding Young Women in America award for founding and her work with
a program for medical students to address the needs of the less
fortunate of San Antonio. She is the mother of two fine sons of whom she is very proud, just
ask and see what happens!
Dr. Thompson has spent the entirety of her
professional career serving New Braunfels and the South Texas region.
She is now a leader in the development of a community- based breast
cancer care program. She is a leader in the initiative for local cancer
care providers to become certified by the National Accreditation Program
for Breast Centers. She wants you to know that you can receive
state-of-the-art breast cancer care at home in New Braunfels. She also
sees patients from Austin, San Antonio, and the surrounding South Texas
region.
Dr. Thompson provides evaluation,
diagnosis and management of benign and malignant diseases of the breast.
She is a participant in The American College of Surgeon's Mastery of
Breast Surgery program, a voluntary quality improvement initiative, and
is working toward completing the requirements for NAPBC accreditation.
She performs breast conservation, traditional mastectomy, skin sparing
and nipple preserving mastectomy, sentinel lymph node biopsy and works
together with reconstructive surgeons. She has certified
in-office breast ultrasonography and performs evaluation and management
of breast cysts, benign nodules, and FNA and core biopsies of suspicious
lesions. She performs a breast cancer risk assessment for each
individual, offers chemoprevention therapy for those at high risk, can
perform genetic screening, provides surveillance, and ongoing care for
those at high risk as well as breast cancer patients. For 16 years Dr.
Thompson has worked closely with a state of the art department of
radiology, a subspecialty trained breast pathologist and with local and
regional medical and radiation oncologists.
Dr. Thompson maintains her certification
and skills in general surgery. She provides diagnostic upper and lower
endoscopies, hernia repair, gallbladder removal, intestinal and skin
surgery. If there is need for a procedure outside of her comfort or
skill range, then she as a well established referral network to rely
upon."
